Our dedicated staff of men and women takes pride in serving the communities of Cape May City, the Borough of West Cape May, and the Borough of Cape May Point. Our highly motivated officers strive to provide quality service to residence and visitors alike.
Each season the Cape May City Police Department employs approximately (18) Special Law Enforcement Officers to supplement our regular patrol force.
The knowledge, training and experience offered to all of our Special Officers Class I and Class II has proven itself again and again. Our Special Officers consistently move on to become sucessful full-time Law Enofrcement Officers.
While employed with the Cape May City Police Department you will experience many facets of law enforcement such as, foot patrol, bicycle patrol, car patrol, enforcement of traffic/parking laws, assisting full-time officers, report writing, and various special details.
The current salary rate for Special Law Enforcement Officers:
Class I - $8.50 per hour (40 hour week schedule)
Class II - $10.00 per hour (40 hour week schedule)
Police Academyt Training Rate - Minimum wage at $5.15 per hour.
* All Special Officers will recieve an hourly increase, in salary, each year they return for employment.
All applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED Certificate prior to the first day of training.
All sucessful applicants will be able to apply for (16) credit hours through Cape Atlantic Community College. For further information regarding college credits contact the Cape May County Police Academy at (609) 465-1134.
The Cape May City Police Department will also assist any applicants wishing to obtain colleged credit through internships. Please check with your college for eligibility.
