Thanks for taking the time to view our Web Site. We are committed to bringing the best available training to our law enforcement officers. Our staff of instructors are all active law enforcement personnel many having Associate, Bachelor, and Master Degrees. Many are also graduates of the West Point Command and Leadership School and the FBI National Academy. All are New Jersey Police Training Commission certified instructors.
Each year the academy offers over 3200 hours of police training. This year we have trained over 1452 law enforcement officers from over 136 municipalities in the State of New Jersey and over 37 municipalities from thirteen other states. We continue to grow
with our new 1.1 million dollar addition that includes a 100 seat tiered classroom with rear projection, wireless internet classroom capabilities, a FATS simulator firearms room, new upgrades to the indoor range as well as break rooms and offices.
We are proud to be one of 27 Export Training Sites in the United States for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga. They offer some of the best training I have seen and it is provided free to law enforcement personnel. We have succeeded in keeping costs down for our training courses that makes our academy attractive to agencies with limited training budgets. We have low cost housing also available on a limited basis.
We presently offer the only residential based municipal police recruit training program in the State of New Jersey. The recruits reside at the academy Monday through Friday for the 21 weeks they train with us. In addition to the basic required training, the recruits receive Community Policing Certification, First Responder Certification, Radar Certification, American Red Cross Community Water Rescue Certification, and AED Certification. Additionally, the recruits participate in force on force training using marked cartidges (live fire) training, boxing, advanced survival shooting, and can take additional courses at night through the Law Enforcement Training System (LETN) received by satellite. Apply early as we always develop a waiting list. Sixteen college credits are offered at graduation from Atlantic Cape Community College.
The academy also offers a 10-week residential based County Correctional Officer Program. This is the only residential based program in the state for County Correctional Officers. The program includes educational, firearms, first responder training, defensive tactics, officer survival practical simulations and meets all the Police Training Commission guidelines.
Our academy is also one of the few academies that offers the Alternate Route Training Program. This program enables a civilian with at least 60 college credits to pay his own way and enter the police academy. They train side by side with full time police recruits and upon graduation earn the same NJ Certification as a full time police officers. These graduates become very marketable in the police field and all of our graduates have secured employment in the law enforcement field within one year of their graduation.
The academy actively helps local police departments recruit personnel for summer seasonal employment. These officers known as Special Law Enforcement Officers gain valuable experiance as they seek to begin their law enforcement career.
Additionally we train and certify police dispatchers. At least three times per year we offer 911 Dispatcher Training, Emergency Medical Dispatcher Training and advanced dispatching courses. The academy also trains Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), offering basic and advanced education courses.
The academy is also an approved veterans training site that enables those who have served our country to obtain financial assistance while attending certain courses.
