Something is always going on and improving at the Cape May County Police Academy. So check back often to view employment opportunities, courses being offered and improvements being made.
The academy recently recieved a total retrofitting of the current classrooms and indoor firearms range. This includes all new air conditioning & heating with new duct work, lighting, painting and some minor reconstruction.
The new addition to the police academy opened and includes a 100 seat elevated classroom, a driving simulator room, and advanced firearms training system (FATS) room, a large break room for officers, all new bathroom facilities and new offices. These classrooms will have the latest in technology available for the instructor and create one of the best learning atmospheres for the recruit or officer.
We are pleased to have been once again selected as one of the 27 Export Training Sites for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Ga. This priviledge allows us to bring some of the best training courses available in the country to law enforcement officers on the East Coast at no cost. We have found these courses and instructors to be some of the best around.
The Law Enforcement and Firefighter Memorial was recently moved to a new location overlooking the pond area on campus. This was necessary because of the expansion and will allow us to have a better site and memorial to the fallen officers and firefighters of Cape May County.
The academy was recently approved as a certified site for the Veterans Administration allowing those who have served our country to apply for benefits while attending certain courses offered.
We have just opened a $700,000 computerized propane fire burn system that includes a live car burn and live building burn. We are presently attempting to secure funding for a three bay fire station for training purposes with a control tower for our simulation equipment. Additionally we have just added a fourth classroom to serve our fire fighters during outside drills and our police officers while on the firearms range.
We have just added two EMT courses to our training schedule, one in the fall and one in the spring.
In the year 2005, Phase Three construction will start. This phase will include a three bay fire station, a control tower, a classroom, and new dormitories.
Additionally we recently added a satellite system that enables us to downlink from all over the world. Additonal parking will become available in the spring of 2005 to accomadate our growing student enrollment.
