Applications will be accepted through March 15th, 2003 for employment during the summer. Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of police work and are subject to a background investigation that will include a criminal history, drivers license and reference checks. Applicants are then given an oral interview followed by basic physical testing. The physical testing will be inline with the entry level requirements at the Cape May County Police Academy. Also Drug Testing will be held prior to and/or during academy training.
Approximately two weeks after the completion of the entire
interview process you will be notified whether you have been hired or not.
You will be fitted for uniforms and issued equipment. You will then report
to the Cape May County Police Academy in early May for SLEO II or SLEO I
training. If you are already a SLEO II Officer after the interview process
you will be given a starting date and a date for firearms qualifications
and in-service training
Pay for SLEO Class II in 2002 was $8.50 an hour. The hourly rate for 2003
will be set sometime in early 2003. Returning seasonal employees enjoy a
modest annual increase.
Most SLEO II Officers are assigned to regular patrol as
a supplement to the existing squad structure while approximately 10 officers
are assigned to the boardwalk / bar walking beat under the supervision of
a Sergeant. Officers will be scheduled for a 42 hour week rotating schedule
or a 40 hour week straight schedule. SLEO I, Code Enforcement Officers,
Seasonal Dispatcher and Seasonal Records Clerk work a straight shift.
The North Wildwood Police Department will assist those colleges that have
internship programs. This will include interviews, evaluations and samples
of the intern’s work product.
We urge those interested to contact their school advisors that manage accreditation of internships.
In the past interns have received up to 12 credits for
working during their summer break at the North Wildwood Police Department
