Wildwood Crest is a resort community with a 21 man police force. There are four dispatchers and 4 support staff personnel. The department is transitioning at this time with six officers able to eligible to retire in the next two years. There will be available full time positions during this time.

Wildwood Crest has a year round population of 3,500 people which increases dramatically during the summer season. The call volume also increases dramatically beginning with Memorial Day weekend and continues through Labor Day and the four subsequent weekends.

Wildwood Crest is a civil service department and has an ordinance requiring residency for appointment of full time police officers. Candidates need to apply and take the Department of Personnel test where a list is then developed. The department is permitted to hire from only the top three candidates on the list any any given time.

We have tried to hire as Class Two Special Law Enforcement Officers, those who are on our civil service list, but do not restrict hiring to this one qualification.
